A cost effective solution for a challenging search
Scenario
A large division of multi-billion dollar consumer healthcare organization came to DuffyGroup, Inc. with a need to fill two Information Systems positions – an Associate Director and a Manager. The client had been sourcing candidates for several months and had extended four offers which resulted in four declines. The search was challenging and very narrow due to:
• Location – Northern NJ/NYC • Salary • Narrow company targets (consumer healthcare companies only)
Strategy
Given the difficulty of the assignment, we tried to set realistic expectations. We were able to offer a “2 for 1” project, sourcing candidates for both positions at the same time and later identifying which level position might be the best fit. In the end, our research team identified and recruited from 23 companies in the NYC/NJ/CT area. We were able to identify 35 candidates, and pitched one or both of the positions to each.
Results
During the sourcing/screening process, we discovered that in addition to location, salary was an obstacle. With further research, we identified that the salary target was as much as 20% below market. Our team provided a report that reflected salary data from nine of the 35 candidates which solidified the 20% salary discrepancy. The client eventually adjusted their salaries.
• Four candidates were submitted • The client extended two offers, resulting in one hire
Return on Investment
The research investment resulted in: • 1 hire • competitive market research/data regarding salary levels • 5 names for candidate database
The cost per hire was one-third of the cost for the same candidate using a traditional search firm.
