Our client needed a cost effective solution for a new department with completely new positions – and they needed it fast!

Scenario

A long standing, valued Duffy client came to us with an urgent request. They were building an internal Tax Department creating several new positions that needed to be filled asap. This function had been outsourced to a third party public accounting firm, and their goal was to streamline costs/process by bringing the tax function in-house. With the time crunch, they reached out to our Duffy research team knowing their investment in research could be leveraged across several positions within this new department.

Strategy

The client tried posting on the Web initially with no success. It was clear to our Duffy Project Leader that a direct sourcing strategy was critical to meet the client objectives. Working closely with the client, the research team targeted companies within a 50 mile radius who were defined as having a related internal function. This is a recruiting niche market that is extremely hard to attract since there is a very limited pool of qualified candidates. Our research team began name generation, screening and pitching the client’s opportunities. In addition to the slate of candidates, the competitive intelligence gleaned from our cold calling created a tremendous database of information for the client to leverage in building this new team.

ROI/Results

The client was thrilled with their investment. They extended three offers ($100K-$150K base range) and two Tax Managers accepted. We have followed up with a second phase for the Director level position and expanded the scope nationwide. In addition, because of our success with this project, the client has asked us to work on an additional search project for another “new” unit with several senior level financial positions.

Comparison

In comparison to retained executive search fees, the client’s investment resulted in a two for one, plus market intelligence that could be leveraged for the next phase of hiring.
